If you have had rheumatic fever, you may have developed rheumatic valvular heart disease. If this condition has caused a blockage of your mitral valve, your doctor may recommend that the valve be opened with balloon valvuloplasty. This is sometimes an effective alternative to valve surgery. If your doctor recommends this procedure, you will receive more detailed information.
