Atherectomy
Another type of angioplasty is called atherectomy. During an atherectomy, a special type of catheter is inserted through the artery in your groin and gently guided by X-ray into the coronary artery that is blocked. When this catheter reaches the blockage, it shaves the plaque buildup away. The plaque is then pulled back into the catheter and removed from your body. This procedure removes the blockage and opens your artery so that blood can flow more freely. It is usually reserved for blockages that have very specific characteristics.
