Medications are often an important part of treatment for cardiovascular disease. For each diagnosis there are
certain types of drugs that are most helpful. It is vital that you understand what medications have been prescribed for you, how they are
going to help you, and what side effects they may cause. In this section, we have outlined the major categories of cardiovascular drugs and
listed the names of the medications included in each category. New medicines are being introduced regularly, therefore, the medication you
are asked to take may not be on the lists in this manual. If not, please ask your physician, pharmacist or nurse for further information.
Sometimes, a medication combines two drugs into a single pill. This is called a combination drug. For example, a beta blocker and a diuretic
may be combined into the same pill for high blood pressure. It would
be difficult to list all of these possible combinations in this section. Your doctor or nurse will inform you about these medications and refer
you to the most helpful pages in this manual for additional information.
At the end of this section, there is a chart
where you can record and track all of your medications as they are prescribed and any changes that occur.
