If you find yourself with no one to talk to, there are options. Talk with your doctor or one of us at MHVI about helping you find a good counselor. Join one of the support groups that are available. Volunteer. Reach out to a friend or family member. You may be surprised at how happy they are to hear from you.
So-called social isolation, or the sense that there is nobody you can talk to about your private feelings, can negatively affect your health. On the other hand, talking about your thoughts and feelings and confiding in someone can enhance your entire immune system and therefore positively affect your healing. The source of the companionship doesn't matter-it could be a romantic partner, but it could just as easily be a friend or family member. Having a confidant is what counts.
