Tilt Table Testing

An upright tilt table test is used to determine the cause of fainting or dizzy spells. This safe and simple test is performed by nurses and technicians and supervised by a cardiologist. During the test, you will lie secured on a table that can be tilted from flat to upright with your head up and feet down. Through changes in position and the use of medications injected through an IV into your arm, your doctor will attempt to produce the fainting sensation and determine its cause while your heart rate and blood pressure are carefully monitored. The test takes between one and two hours to complete. If this test is ordered for you, you will receive detailed information and instructions when the test is scheduled.
