Magnetic Resonance Anigiography (MRA)

Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) is another type of diagnostic test that is sometimes used to examine the blood vessels. This test uses magnetic fields instead of X-rays to take pictures of the arteries and veins. As part of an MRA, you may be asked to drink a type of liquid that has a special dye in it, or you may have the dye injected intravenously into a vein. During the test, you will lie on a table that will move you into a tube that contains the magnetic fields. Pictures will be taken for your doctor to examine. An MRA takes up to an hour to perform. It is done on an outpatient basis.

If an MRA is ordered for you, you will receive additional information and instructions when the test is scheduled.
